Ok every single baking blog says they have the best chocolate cake recipe. Of course it doesn’t really matter which one is the best, it matters that it’s worth the calories. That is the standard I like to use and I’m sure many recipes achieve that standard.
All I know is that this is the best I’ve ever had, it’s just so soft and moist. Actually so soft that it’s not a good cake for building layers. But just to eat or to knock up a quick cake for a birthday you forgot about, it’s awesome.
The recipe for the cake is from Chef Steps, I don’t quite put as much boiled water in as it makes the cake too soft for handling. The only other changes are the addition of spices, cardamom and cinnamon.
I made this for my Great Auntie’s 60th and it went down well. I personally think the caramel topping is the best looking I’ve made but I should tell you that I took this picture straight after piping it on, after a few minutes the caramel starts to spread. You can see the cake when it got to it’s serving, the clean caramel lines are gone.
